Large Deer Bear

Large Deer Bear
Large Deer Bear
What is the best range of calibres for deer up to moose and elk.?

my dad is taking me moose hunting and his friend is talking me deer hunting and i am looking for a good gun to buy that i can use on medium size game like White tail and large game like Bear, Moose and Elk.

To the previous post, I like Elk and Moose Steaks that is why I hunt. Remember, there is room for all of God's creatures-On my plate right next to the mashed potatos!

Now for an answer -Buy a Remuington 700 in .300 Rem Ultra Magnum and use their Power Level ammo. Ammo is loaded to 30-06, .300 Win Mag and maxed out at .300 Rem Ultra Mag level. Shoot Deer with the Level 1, Elk with Level 2 and Moose and Bear with Level 3. If you are recoil shy, you can practice with Level 1 until you are comfortable, then graduate to the higher power ammo.

Use Large Statuary as the Focal Point of Your Garden

If you have a radiant garden in which you dearly love to spend time, you can add a dramatic flair to the space by adding large statuary. Every garden, no matter how large or small, needs a garden statue to give the garden breadth and depth.

You can tell a story with such statues, add a romantic ambiance or give the garden a classical look or an element of surprise. There are numerous options in accessorizing your garden in this manner. It can serve as a contrast to the landscape or bring attention to a particular part of the garden.

You do need to have a theme in mind for your garden before you purchase large statuary. Look at the many types of statues available to decide which ones would look best in a particular area to complement your outdoor decor, whether it be rock gardens, hot tub gazebos (http://www.mybath.biz/servlet/the-Hot-Tubs/Categories), or patio waterfalls.

You should make sure that the statuary is in scale with the surroundings. A large statue in a small garden will overpower it and diminish the beauty of the flowers and shrubs. You have to choose the statue in accordance with the size of the garden so that it will seem like a natural part of the surroundings. The end of a long pathway, for example, is the perfect location for a small statue.

Classical large statuary adds a timeless quality to your garden. Choose a statue of an ancient Greek or Roman god or nude sculptures that accentuate the human form. Reproductions of the statues of famous sculptors are not as expensive as you may think and will occupy a place of importance in your garden and your life. Life size statues of this nature will certainly become a conversation piece with visitors as they ask about the design and compliment you on your choice.

There are also art deco statues of humans created in angular and geometrical designs that will add flair and dramatics to your outdoor space or hot tub (http://www.mybath.biz/servlet/the-Hot-Tub-Accessories/Categories). A large statuary angel will add a whimsical theme to your garden as well as a celestial glow. Choose an angel standing with her arms outspread ready to envelop all who enter or a statue of a sleeping baby to add to the peaceful nature of the garden.

Animal sculptures look part of the garden and many visitors may think at first glance that the animals are real. If you live in a rural area, a statue of a mother bear and her cub or one of a deer will really make your garden seem like it was created by Mother Nature without any help from you. Lions always work well in any garden and give it s sense of strength and majesty.

Whatever type of large statuary you choose; you cannot simply install it and think that you don't have to do any maintenance on it, especially if it is made from natural material. In the winter make sure you do cover it to protect it from the weather.

Ice and water freezing in the crevices of the statue could cause it to crack, which will mar the overall look. Concrete statues should be treated with a sealer and covered along with your swim spa, so that moisture from rain and snow will not seep into the cracks and cause breakage.

Even in summer, you need to give the statue a good washing once in a while so that algae won't collect on the surface. If you do follow these tips, you will have many years of enjoyment from the large statuary in your garden.

Alleppey

ALAPPUZHA(The Venice Of The East)

To label Alappuzha (The Malayalam Name For Alleppey) The “Venice of the East” might today appear a far-etched cliché of travelogue writers, but this quaint little town is certainly the Venice of India. Nowhere else will you find , spread out across the centre of town, a unique crisscrossing network of canals on which that covered country boats punt along leisurely. The proximity of lakes adds to the Venetian ambience. For tourists Alappuzha is the pivotal point for trips into Kerala’s famed backwaters and the state’s lush rice bowl, Kuttanad, between Kollam to the South and Kottayam to the east lie some of the most entrancing scenary of palm-linked banks, quiet water-bound villages and little boats taking the local people to and fro-everything framed in green. A singular characteristic of this land is the region called Kuttanad. The rice bowl of Kerala Kuttanad is perhaps the only place in the world where farming is done below sea level. Apart from the boat trips through the town’s many canals and lakes, and the Mullackal Bhagavathi Temple in the heart of town, Alappuzha offers glimpses of the coir manufacturing process- from the coconut husk to the final rope/coir yarn stage. There are also several shops selling coir matting and carpets often at prices cheaper than elsewhere. The long sandy beach at Alappuzha has a light house and a pier jutting out into the sea, once active in the unloading of goods from ships calling at Alappuzha. Children can romp in the Vijay Beach Park. The not-to-be-missed spectacle in Alappuzha is of course the Nehru Trophy Boat Race which began in 1952 on the occasion of the visit of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to Alappuzha. It is now a major event held on the second Saturday of every August and features the gigantic snake- boats of Kerala, the chundans, once the battleships of the Malayalee kings of yore.Today the Boat Race has grown into Alappuzha’s single most important tourist event, with each boat being sponsored by a different village. Competition is severe as the boats, with over 100 rowers in each ,race to the finish to the accompaniment of rousing music.

Kuttanad

Kuttanad is called the rice bowl of Kerala, because for her wealth of paddy crops are at the very heart of the backwaters. The scenic country side of Kuttanad with its shimmering waterways also has a rich crop of bananas, cassava and yams, which accompany the rice bowl as “side dishes”.This is perhaps the only land in the world where farming is done below sea level. Inland waterways which flow above land level are an amazing feature of this unique land.

Alappuzha Beach

Alappuzha beach is one of the most popular spots in the district of Alappuzha. Its beautiful garden on the shore gives an exclusive sight.Imposing buildings of a colonial past overlook the shore. The pier, which extends into the sea is more than 140 years old and is a rare sight. Dense Palm groves at one end and an ancient towering light house at the other,Vijaya Park and Sea view park are all spectacular sights one should never miss.Boating facility is available in both parks.Facilities at Vijaya Beach Park:Boating, a childrens park with toy train and bicycles. This little island on the backwaters is a favourite haunt of hundreds of rare migratory birds from different parts of the world. The island lies between Thaneermukkam and Kumarakom, and is accessible only by boat.

Wayanad

Edakkal Cave

This location of breath taking beauty in three kms from Ambalavayal which is 25 kms from Kalpetta. The Edakkal cave in the Ambukuthy mountain is not a cave in the real sense. As stated in the India Antiquary and quoted in the district Gazetteer,Kozhikode, it is only a “cleft about 96ft. long and 22ft. wide in the rock”.It is a fissure made by a corner of rock splitting off from the main body due to some natural causes. The depth of both cleft and fissure is 30ft. What makes it a cave to the ordinary observer is the fact that in the other portion of the large cleft, an enormous rock, weighing several tones, has fallen forming a roof over a large part of it.The rock wall contains some interesting carvings, which represent human and animal figures and objects of human use and symbols. These carvings speak of a highly civilized people of pre-historic age and inspires the archaeologists and historians to rewrite the history of Wayanad and Kerala as a whole.

Pookot Lake

It is a natural fresh water lake, brimmed with ever green mountains. The weather here is salacious; the scenic beauty, hypnotising and the nature, unspoiled. Pookot Lake tourist resort in Vythiri is the most sort after tourist spot of Wayanad. There is an aquarium and a green house here. Boating facilities are also available.

Sentinel Rock Water Fall: This water fall is at Vellarimala village near Chooramala in Meppadi Panchayat. It is a picnic spot as well as a trekking centre. The sentinel rock, a rock of more than 200m in height, is ideal for rock climbing.

Soochippara Waterfall

The waterfalls at Soochippara near Meppadi is really a treasure of nature, yet to be discovered. The stretches of waterfalls ranging at places from 100 to 300 feet height is a treat to the eyes. The pool below, provides for water rafting, swimming, bathing, etc.

Trivandrum

Located at the south western tip of India, Thiruvananthapuram district is bounded by the Arabian sea in the west and Tamil Nadu in the east. The wooden highlands of the western ghats in the eastern and north eastern borders give Thiruvananthapuram some of the most enchanting picnic spot. A long shore line with internationally renowed beaches, backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage make this district a much sought after tourist destination. Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of Kerala.

Kovalam

Location: Just 16km from TVM city, south Kerala. Best time to visit: September to March, though it is an all year destination. Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It has been a favourite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s. A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing. The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse-sunbathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programmes, Catamaran cruising etc. The tropical sun acts so far than one can see the faint blush of coppery tan on the skin in a matter of minute. Life on the beach begins late in the day and carries on well into the nights. The beach complex includes a string of budget cottages, Ayurvedic health resorts, convention facilities, shopping zones, swimming pools, Yoga and Ayurvedic massage centres etc. Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is just 16km away from Kovalam and getting there is no hassle. But if you are on holiday it is better to stay in Kovalam and visit the city. Thiruvananthapuram has interesting places to see like the Napier Museum, the Sri Chitra Art gallery, the Pathmanabha Swamy Temple, the Ponmudi hill station etc. SMSM Institute, a state owned handicrafts emporium, is the ideal place to pick up ethnic curious and other articles.

Kanyakumari

(Cape Comorin)- 87kms away from TVM, it is located at a junction at the southernmost tip of India where the three water bodies, namely The Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and The Indian Ocean meet. From here, one can see the sun rise from The Bay of Bengal and sunset in the Arabian Sea. It is a holy place for Hindus be cause of the Kanyakumari Temple. The Gandhi Smarak Mandir and Vivekananda Rock Memorial are additional tourist attractions.

What Practice Can Help In Shooting the Deer?

The experience of the hunter is depending on how many time he practice. Extreme cases of buck fever are usually reserved for the novice and as he gains experience, he gains control over nerves and muscles so that the initial shock does not last long enough to prevent his bagging the deer.

I know of one man who has a case of buck fever every time he shoots a deer, yet the effects do not hit him until the deer is down. He shoots almost automatically on sighting a deer, and then his hand will shake so badly that he has to take time out for a smoke before he can dress out his game. He tells me that this reaction hits him every time he kills a deer. Evidently he hunts under a nervous strain which is released when the kill is made.

One phase of the nervous system over which we have little control is our individual reaction time or the interval between sighting something and doing something about it. In the case of the hunter, this means the interval between each action from the time the deer is sighted to the time of the shot. This lag is difficult to measure because it is seldom the same under all conditions in an individual.

By practicing the motion of bringing the gun into shooting position until it becomes almost automatic, we are able to cut the reaction time so that the only important lag occurs between the time of identifying the game and of pulling the trigger. A portion of this time lag should be deliberate in order to check target identification and sight alignment, but that portion which is due to mental and muscular reaction should be held to the hunter's personal average by avoiding anything that has a tendency to retard his reaction-time. Since different things affect different people in different ways, there is no hard-and-fast rule which can be followed. Most of us are a bit sluggish after eating a heavy meal, and a very small amount of alcohol will slow the reactions. Possibly an extra cup of coffee, or the lack of it, will have an adverse effect on some individuals. Each person should avoid anything, which he thinks might interfere with his reactions. My average time between sighting a deer and the first shot seems to be about the time it takes a deer to make one jump from a standing start. Probably more than half of this time lag is due to slow reaction.

This means I have no chance to hit a deer which crosses an open place with one jump unless I am able to see him in the surrounding woods. I have had deer walk across a ten-foot woods road before I could make identification and bring the sights to bear, and yet at times my reaction has been so fast that the deer seemed to move in slow motion.

I recall one such instance when I sighted a deer just as its front feet were leaving the ground as it prepared to jump. The deer's head and shoulders rose until the deer was almost upright. At that time I had the gun aimed at its shoulder and I squeezed off a shot.

In the case of the hunter, this means the interval between each action from the time the deer is sighted to the time of the shot. Practice means perfect, by practicing the motion of bringing the gun into shooting position until it becomes almost automatic, we are able to cut the reaction time so that the only important lag occurs between the time of identifying the game and of pulling the trigger. Beginners have to get themselves some practice before they go for hunting, for a better shot.

Large Deer Rabbit

Large Deer Rabbit
Large Deer Rabbit
Primary or Secondary Succession, Explain?

A logging company cut down all the large trees in an of forest. After the area was cleared, spruce seedlings began to sprout. Rabbits, birds, and deer returned to the area.

The answer is secondary succession which occurs after an event in an already or previous established community where changes take place on a previously colonized, but disturbed or damaged habitat.

Primary succession occurs in a community where changes occur on an entirely new habitat which has never been colonized before (where no substrate exists).

Examples of such habitats would include newly exposed or deposited surfaces, such as landslips, volcanic lava and debris, elevated sand banks and dunes, quarried rock faces.

How To Gut A Deer Video - Choosing the Right Hunting Knife

How To Gut A Deer Video

Before you settle on that new hunting knife, there are a few things you should consider. What animals will you hunt? How will you dress and butcher the animal? Do you plan to have a mount made? How do you want to carry the knife and is size or weight a factor? All these things may not seem important at first glance, but get into the elk woods with a knife poorly suited to skinning, caping or deboning and they suddenly become apparent.

Small game and upland birds are often easily handled with the average pocket knife. There are, however, knives specifically designed for small game. Big game like deer, elk, bear, moose and caribou are just that ... BIG game. As the size and weight of the animal increase, the toughness of the hide increases. Body size and weight are decidedly an issue if you need to quarter or debone the animal to get it home or to a meat processor. That pocket knife you use on rabbits or quail might get the job done on a bear, but it isn't going to be easy or pleasant. Neither is field dressing a cottontail with a large, fixed-blade sheath knife. How To Gut A Deer Video

Let's look at the basic tasks we ask our knives to do

We'll stick with big game. After the kill, your first consideration will likely be field dressing or gutting. Any experienced hunter knows that, right? But is there a particular type knife that is better at gutting than some other? Can't you gut a deer or an elk with the same knife you'll use to skin it? Sure you can, but ...

Consider that a dedicated gut hook, or a knife with a built-in gut hook, will do a neater, cleaner job of field dressing than a skinning knife will, just as a skinning knife will skin that elk easier and more efficiently than a deboning knife ever could. And speaking of deboning ... try it with a dedicated gut hook sometime. And what if that elk you just shot is your "Trophy of a Lifetime"? You want a mount, don't you? At least a full head or a shoulder mount, huh? That means somebody will have to cape that elk properly so your taxidermist will have something to work with besides a ragged hide full of nicks and holes. A caping knife is in order.

The point here is that there are different type knives for different tasks. The right tool for the job, as the saying goes.

Now let's compare the types mentioned so far

Dedicated gut hooks

This knife (for our purposes we'll call it a knife) really has only one intended purpose ... to cut open the belly, or paunch, WITHOUT cutting into the entrails and making a huge, stinking, contaminating mess. The dull tip does not nick the gut as the inverted "U"-shaped cutting edge zips open the belly slick as a whistle! Kind of like one of those fancy letter openers. It's not much good for anything else, although I suppose it could pass as a pencil sharpener in a pinch. How To Gut A Deer Video
