Why did white people in the 18th century think it was ok to take black people from africa?

It's simple, superiority complex. The whites thought the blacks were beneath them and could be used for hard labor and treated like animals. There are of course many other sides to this as well. Slaves were often caught by their own people in trade for other goods. My suggestion; pick out some choice history books and find more information for your own enrichment.

Later the United States Air Force put saw teeth on the back side of the knife. The reason for this is to saw thought acrylic glass canopy of a crashed aircraft. The United States Army also gave this variation of the bowie knife  to its helicopter crews for the same reason.

There are many variations of the bowie knife. Some use this name to describe any large sheath knife. In the Civil War Confederate soldiers made huge knives called D-Guard Bowie knives. Even thought they where more like short swords. Bowie knives are still very popular with collectors and there are many spin off like the Ka-Bar. It is a knife that is based off the Bowie design. Ernest Emerson used the Bowie as a logo on his folding Bowie knives.

Jim Bowie was inducted into the Blade Magazine in the 1988 Blade show in Atlanta Georgia for his huge impact on the knife making industry. Now the Bowie knife is illegal in many states. Even in the state where Jim Bowie died (Texas) Where Jim Bowie and his knife fought and died in the Alamo to help make Texas apart of the United States. It is also illegal in many other states.

One often hears the lazy argument that "Religion" is responsible for Man's wars, the implication being that if we got rid of religion, all would be peace and harmony. Presumably then, if all men abandoned the notion that they are spirits inhabiting a material body and conceived of themselves as mere animals fashioned by chance from mud our troubles would be over and we'd all be a lot happier. This is of course untrue and does not correspond with an observation of history, nor of present reality.

It also displays a degree of fogginess about what one means by the word "religion" Religions vary considerably. There are pantheisms (the belief in many gods) monotheisms (the belief in one God who created all) and religions that worship no gods at all, such as Buddhism or modern Scientology.

At the far end of the spectrum there are even religions that do not conceive man to be an immortal soul even while life is considered to be nevertheless spiritual in essence.

Some religions such as Christianity stress faith, while faith has no place at all in others –Scientology and Buddhism being cases in point.

One should note too, while one is discussing paradigms based on Faith, that  materialism remains unable to produce conclusive evidence for its basic assumption. That spirituality does not exist is a matter of belief, not evidence. One can of course produce evidence that the material universe exists and one can establish and prove its laws but this is not proof that that the material universe is all there is. The assertion that the material universe is all there is is neither scientific nor logical and is actually a statement of faith.

Alright, so this vague undefined variable known as "religion" or "faith" is responsible for Man's wars. Is it true?

Well, I can think of a few recent conflicts or humanitarian cataclysms whose driving force was anything but religious.

Hitler's massacre of ethnic minorities, for instance: religions were often the victim of Nazi psychosis but they were not responsible for it. In fact it is now a matter of record that the drive behind Nazi mass slaughter came from German Psychiatry, the arch-champion of the man-is-mud hypothesis.

The drive behind the Russian revolution and the Stalinist slaughter that followed it was anything but religious, deriving again from the materialism of communism and psychiatry.

Ditto the civil war and ethnic cleansing in Yugoslavia. Ditto the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, with materialistic psychiatry the hidden motivator again.

The Chinese invasion of Korea in1950 and the Korean War that followed also had little or nothing to do with religious issues. One had materialistic communist China on the one hand and the largely atheistic commercial imperialism of western nations on the other.

The US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were commerce-driven regardless of what justifications are concocted for it, while in the war in Vietnam, religion figured neither in the motivation nor rhetoric of either side.

Not all war therefore is "caused" by "religion." Religious groups are however often the victim or target of it but not exclusively and not always. There is no evidence that by "getting rid of religion" one would "get rid of war" any more than there is evidence that by outlawing atheism or abandoning commerce there would be peace on Earth.

Nor is there any evidence that an abandonment of spirituality would make society happier. On the contrary, our western society has become unhappier and more demoralized as it has become materialistic. You will probably find that the epidemic spread of drug abuse and crime on the one hand and the decline in man's spirituality and even his sense of right and wrong follow commensurate curves. In the midst of material abundance, which theoretically should have made Man happier, we live out our days in an increasingly miserable Gomorrah of lost souls.

Of course "religion" is a factor in the war in the Middle East and in justifications for their actions put forward by terrorist groups. And religion has been a factor in many a human conflict. It is true too that religious societies have not necessarily been happy ones either.

In fact, a look at human history tells one that whether spiritual in outlook or materialistic in outlook, Man tends to have a hard time. From this one can conclude that humanity is still evolving its social forms and does not yet have all the answers. This is no reason to get apathetic about the whole thing and to abandon the effort to reason in favour of generalized, unworkable slogans. Indeed, we have every incentive to go on trying to get better at these things called society and civilization, if only through a sense of responsibility to our children who will inherit whatever dog's breakfast we bequeath them.

Getting better at managing human affairs requires that we knock off subscribing to broad, untrue, generalities such as "religion is the cause of war" or some such nonsense.

Let's look this thing over more carefully and see if we can get a bit more accurate about what exactly is getting us into trouble.

Perhaps, if we do, we might as a species manage to comport ourselves with more dignity and kick the habit of following every psycho who seeks to persuade us to burn the skin off the children of people we have never met.

Has anyone ever made a black forest wedding cake?

I've had a request to make one and am not sure what the best way to go about it would be. Any suggestions would be great.

A traditional Black Forrest cake is a chocolate cake, with cherry filling and whipped cream outside. Generally it is accompanied by a cherry brandy that you can soak the cake in, and chocolate shavings on the outside. Some people substitute and use a butter cream, so you may ask the bride and groom which they perfer or just stick to tradition and use whipped.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons College Football Tickets Available

Representing Wake Forest University and a member of the Atlantic division of the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1953, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons College Football team has won two conference championships. The most recent win was in 2006. The team plays their home games at Groves Stadium, Winston-Salem NC. The team?s colors are old gold and black, and they are more commonly known as the ?Demon Deacons,? which refers to their tough fighting spirit. Ranked by the Top 25 in the nation by the AP Poll in the whole season back in 2006, they certainly know how to make it to the top. In 2006, when they won against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Florida, they were sent to play the Big East Champion Louisville Cardinals. Even if they lost 24-13, it was a blessing in disguise for the Deacons. That same year, they became the smallest undergraduate enrollment of any school in the BCS conferences.

They played their first football game in 1888. The team also won their first ever ACC championship in 1970, and Georgia Tech lost to them in the ACC championship game two years ago. The schools worthy opponents include North Carolina State University, North Carolina University, and Duke University. In fact, the Demon Deacons are part of the Tobacco Road, also known as ?The Big Four, which are the schools that compete head to head with each other every season in the ACC. Wake Forest first made its mark on the ?Tobacco Road? in October 18, 1888 when it won 6-4 against North Carolina. In 2006 and 2007, Wake Forest University also swept the series with its ?Big Four? rivals.

With Jim Grobe as their current head coach and Ron Wellman as the athletics director, other outstanding players from the team are Fred Robbins, Ricky Proehl, John Mackovic, Desmond Clark, Jack Dolbin, Clark Gaines, Brian Piccolo (basis of Brian?s song), Bill Ard and the current governor of Florida: Charlie Crist. The current roster of players for the team include Micah Andrews, Riley Skinner , Kenneth Moore, Aaron Curry and Alphonso Smith.

Some players of the team have also been awarded ?Best Player? in the ACC like Chris Barclay in 2005, and ?ACC Rookie of the Year? awards went to Josh Adams in 2007 and Riley Skinner in 2006. 2006 was also a special year for the team?s head coach, as he snagged three of the most coveted titles namely ?ACC Coach of the Year,? ?Associated Press Coach of the Year,? and ?Bobby Dodd Award.?

In recent news, Wake Forest beat Duke University, another fellow ?Tobacco Road? member 33-30 into what was described as an ?overtime thriller.? Wake Forest fans can still catch the team?s games from November 6 to November 8 when the games air on TV, or better yet, watch the games live by reserving seats online, and singing their hearts out to the official fighting song, ?O'Here's to Wake Forest.? On November 8, 2008, Saturday, the Deacons will host Virginia for Homecoming.

How do I get stains out of my sons black and white basketball jersey?

The white side of my sons basketball jersey is stained, how do I remove the stains? I have tried a little bleach and it doesn't work. His team is usually the home team and it looks really bad to have him playing in what appears to be a dirty jersey.......Help!!!

Tape the black parts of the jursey and with bleach hand wash the jursey,thats how i used to do it.

Just about everyone has heard of Nostradamus, the man who made all those famous predictions about 500 years ago. Nostradamus (Michele de Nostradame) was born in Saint Remi, southern France in 1503 and was raised as a Roman Catholic. He was a French doctor and astrologer. Nostradamus was educated as a physician and was noted for using innovative methods to treat victims of the bubonic plagues in the 16Th century.  Nostradamus's reliance on sanitary precautions aided his growing renown as a doctor. His use of innovative methods of treatment and his success in curing extremely ill patients earned him a reputation as a specially gifted healer. Unfortunately Nostradamus lost his wife and two sons to the plague. Nostradamus also received a broad religious education. He studied ancient history and the occult including the beliefs and religions of ancient Babylon.
   Nostradamus is perhaps the most famous scryer, which means to practice crystal gazing. He is believed to have employed a small bowl of water set upon a brass tripod as a scrying tool into which he gazed and received images of future events. Nostradamus is said to have anointed himself with water before going to work.
   He is most noted for his prophecies and predictions. Nostradamus wrote 1,000 quatrains (four lines of verse) that he divided into 10 sections called Centuries in 1555. They were commonly numbered by roman numerals I to X. The Centuries were written as a collection of prophetic quatrains with no chronological order, which has inspired his followers to rearrange them.
    Nostradamus wrote in early modern French, with a mixture of archaic words derived from Latin and Greek. He always concealed his meaning in anagrams, symbolism, and mythological allusions. He explains that this was done to avoid persecution from the Inquisition. Nostradamus is not known for his cheery prophecies. He used an ancient practice of divination which can be traced back to Ancient Babylon. It is said he also used ancient, dark arts to "conjure" a frightening Spiritual Entity who gave him his visions into the future. Nostradamus deliberately obscures the name of this entity because he knows it could be dangerous if he was discovered by the witch hunters of his day. Nostradamus predicts details of  unfolding events that are far too close to be coincidence, yet they would have made no sense whatsoever when first published.
  He is believed by some to have predicted many great events in history, including the rise and fall of Napoleon and Hitler, the bombing of Hiroshima and the assassination of US president John F.Kennedy. Nostradamus predicted that the US would go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also predicted the hunt for Bin Laden, and that this would escalate into World War III. He also seemed to have predicted Nuclear War in this decade, sometime between 1999 AD and 2012 AD.  Nostradamus does not predict that the earth will be wiped out.
   Nostradamus names three antichrists who will wreak havoc on the world. The first antichrist is Napoleon, the second is Hitler and the third antichrist as MABUS, the name for an Arabic Terrorist who will use a nuclear weapon against the west. He wrote that the third antichrist would come from a region "east of the Black Sea". Nostradamus wrote: The eastern man will come forth from his seat and cross the Apennines to France. Now what this means no one knows. He also wrote of the coming of an Avatar, a World Teacher, who will save the world. 
   Nostradamus made many predictions about a Comet or Comet Planet called Nibiru that will pass earth soon after the year 2000 AD and would trigger global destruction. he says that the comet would be visible to earth for seven days. He has many quatrains about an asteroid impact to the sea. Nostradamus stated, in plain French that his prophecies would extend to the year 3797. Nostradamus attributed his gift of prophecy to inspiration and divine revelation, and continual calculations and goes on to say that events can be foretold naturally by the heavenly bodies and by the spirit of prophecy. Nostradamus died in 1566 and his most popular work was Les Propheties. Let's only hope that his works were only prophecies and nothing more.
