Six Quaker

I am leaving town ( vacation ) for six days next week and I am leaving my quaker parrot alone for that time.?

Any suggestions on how to make this absence easier on my bird. She really loves attention and is a very happy bird. She's tame and is usually let out of here cage daily. We just moved into a new house and we aren't quite comfortable enough with the neighbors to have them watch her. What should we do? We have some timers that wil make the radio and lights come on and off at diifferent times. What else should we do?

Birds should never be left alone for more than 24 hours. If you give her tons of food to last her, she's just going to eat up all the good stuff and will have nothing left to last her. Plus she needs fresh water every day. On top of this, she should not be without some kind of company as you may return to a very sad, depressed and p.o.'d bird. Just think about it... in the wild, they are with flocks of many, many birds and often a mate by their side at all times. Don't leave your bird alone for that long of a period of time, it's just not fair to her.

Find a vet or boarding facility that can take care of her for you. Or find a pet sitter in your area that can come over every day and feed, water, talk, play and spend time with her.

It will cost you some money, but it's well worth it to prevent any problems while you're gone.
