Why won't my grandfather clock chime properly?

At first my grandfather clock was too slow, once I got that corrected it all of a sudden it would only chime once on the hour and half hour when its supposed to chime, for example, 7 times at 7 and once on the half hour. Any suggestions?

I own a grandfather clock and have learned they require periodic maintenance, cleaning, adjustment and lubrication to function correctly. I have learned to do it myself rather than pay $125/hour.
In your case, most likely the clock needs to be cleaned and lubricated. If you can picture many many very fine gears, some almost paper-thin that must be free of dust and other "gunk" that floats around in the air in our homes. Also the gears wear and tiny metal particles need to be cleaned away. It is not a trivial process, to be done correctly the mechanism must be removed from the clock. Don't just start spraying things inside, you can cause severe damage to an expensive time piece.
If you want to try it, here is a good place to start. Otherwise crack out the credit card and be ready to pay $200-$300.
