Can I use a Victorian hairbrush on my hair?

I'm not an expert on antique things, but my new apartment has goddess themed furniture and household items, things that a goddess would use or sit on. Thus, a regular hair brush just won't do. I was wondering whether it would be stupid to use a an antique Victorian hairbrush on my hair or if that is something that people actually do now. Do people actually use these or do they just display them? Would it hurt my hair or help it? Thanks
